The story textbox displays the text of your current path, which is the joined text of all the nodes in the path, starting from the root.

editing nodes

Nodes can be edited directly in the textbox. When your caret is in the text of a node, the node is considered "active" or "focused", and navigation and retry buttons will appear around the node.

There is no need to submit edits; the text of the node is updated immediately upon change.

Take note of the blinking border which appears around the node in the map that is being edited.

toggle writeable and selecting text

It's not possible to select text across multiple nodes while the textbox is writeable. To enable selecting text across multiple nodes (e.g. for copying), you can temporarily make the textbox read-only using the ✏️ button at the top right of the textbox. Clicking it again makes the textbox writeable.

You can also use the hotkey ⌘E | Ctrl+E to toggle whether the textbox is writeable.
